Victoria Drop Forgings has been commissioned to manufacture components for the restoration of World War 2 Spitfire aircraft, in partnership with The Aircraft Restoration Company. The commission has caused significant excitement throughout the company.

The iconic Spitfire was designed by R.J. Mitchell and first produced in 1938. Of the 20,351 aircraft manufactured, only 54 remain airworthy today.

The Part — A Tail Leg Swivel Axle

The company is forging a tail leg swivel axle — a critical assembly component that connects the wheel leg to the wheel fork. Dave Pipe from The Aircraft Restoration Company explained that "material integrity is essential as the part has to cope with a great deal of force on landing."

Why Victoria Forgings?

Victoria Forgings was selected following evaluation of several forging companies. The selection criteria centred on technical expertise and quality approvals. Staff member Geoff Radford provided developmental support, including 3D printing demonstrations and tooling guidance.

Combining Heritage with Modern Capability
